Thinking About: A Festive Typeface for Joyful Campaign Designs

Designing a Holiday Social Post – First Impressions with Thinking About

I was finalizing a holiday-themed Instagram carousel for a seasonal product launch when I decided to test Thinking About as the main header font. The brief called for a cheerful, approachable tone, and I needed a typeface that could carry that energy without feeling overused. As soon as I dropped in the text, the font immediately brought a warm, handcrafted feel to the design. It’s not just decorative—it’s expressive. The subtle swashes and organic curves gave the post a personal touch that aligned perfectly with the campaign’s message of connection and celebration.

Visual Style and Personality: Festive, Friendly, and Fully Decorative

Thinking About is a script font in the Script Amp category, but it leans more into festive design than formal calligraphy. It’s clearly built for moments where you want typography to feel like part of the artwork. The letters have a gentle bounce, with slight variations in stroke weight that suggest a brush or marker stroke. It’s the kind of font you’d expect to see on holiday packaging, gift tags, or digital greeting cards. This isn’t a font for minimalism—it’s for moments where the type should feel like part of the visual celebration.

It works best in contexts where the text is short and the emotional tone is upbeat. Whether you’re crafting a limited-time offer banner or a playful YouTube thumbnail for a holiday vlog, this typeface adds a layer of personality that’s hard to replicate with standard script fonts.

Performance Across Campaign Assets: From Thumbnails to Email Headers

I tested Thinking About across several campaign assets: a YouTube thumbnail, a Pinterest pin, a mobile email header, and a carousel post for Instagram. On the YouTube thumbnail, it performed well as a title overlay—its decorative elements were visible even at smaller sizes, though I made sure to pair it with a clean sans serif for the supporting text to maintain readability.

In the Pinterest pin, the font added a nice contrast against a soft winter background, especially when used for a headline like “Cozy Holiday Ideas You’ll Love.” The font’s flourishes didn’t distract from the overall composition but instead enhanced the seasonal aesthetic. However, when I tried using it in a mobile email header with a dark background and white text, I noticed that some of the finer details got lost. A slightly bolder weight or a subtle drop shadow helped improve legibility in that context.

When to Use (and When Not to Use) Thinking About

This font shines in short-form, high-impact applications like:

It’s best reserved for headlines, callouts, or decorative titles rather than long-form or body copy. The swashes and ligatures can become overwhelming if used at length, and readability diminishes on small screens when used in anything smaller than 18pt. It also doesn’t fit formal brand voices or corporate campaigns—this is a font that wants to be seen and felt, not analyzed.

I avoided using it in a webinar registration banner because the font’s playful tone clashed with the professional context. It also didn’t work well in a dense Facebook ad layout where the headline needed to be clear and direct. In those cases, a clean sans serif was a better fit.

Font Pairing and Practical Design Tips

One of the most effective pairings I found was using Thinking About for the headline and a simple, modern sans serif like Montserrat or Lato for subtext and supporting copy. This contrast helped maintain visual hierarchy while keeping the overall design approachable and readable.

If you’re using this font in a template or branded asset pack, make sure to explore the alternate characters and ligatures included in the font file. Some of the swash variations add a nice touch to holiday greetings or quote graphics. Also, check the file formats provided—OTF, TTF, and WOFF support will be crucial if you're embedding the font into web assets or design templates for clients.

Commercial licensing is another important consideration. Since this is a premium font, verify that the license allows for use in client work, merchandise, or digital products if that’s part of your campaign scope.

Final Verdict: A Joyful Addition to Holiday and Seasonal Campaigns

After testing Thinking About across multiple campaign visuals, I’d recommend it for any designer or marketer looking to inject warmth and personality into seasonal or celebratory content. It’s not a workhorse font, but it’s a standout choice for the right context—especially when you want your typography to feel like part of the holiday cheer.

If you’re working on a Fonts project that calls for expressive, handcrafted energy, this display font is worth exploring. Just be mindful of its decorative nature and use it where it can truly shine—short, bold, and full of heart.
